View it in your browser STATEMENT: Supreme Court Ruling is a Win for National Security  Photo Credit: Getty Images YOU, Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that two states and five social media users did not have standing to challenge the Biden administration's communication with social media companies over concerns about COVID-19 misinformation and election interference. In response, as senior director for Courts and Legal Policy at the Center for American Progress, I issued the following statement: This ruling is a victory for national security and efforts to keep Americans safe from foreign threats and disinformation. Far from being coerced into censorship, social media companies have actively sought collaborations with government entities and shared critical information to combat foreign interference in U.S. elections and address misinformation. This collaboration is critical to dealing with national security threats on social media platforms so the government can protect the public from unchecked malicious online activities. The Biden administration no longer has any excuse to hold back from its efforts to protect Americans online ahead of the upcoming elections.
