Subject: Facts can still change the world

Dear Reader ---

Believe it: Facts can still change the world.

I know it's true because I see it happen all the time at ThinkProgress.

Last month, for example, ThinkProgress exposed twelve wealthy institutions that were helping finance white nationalism by investing in a hedge fund run by right-wing megadonor Robert Mercer -- the man who finances Breitbart and Milo Yiannopoulos. The prominent institutions that we exposed weren't happy about being linked to these folks, but facts are facts.

Two weeks later, with the institutions already pulling their money out, Mercer abruptly stepped down from the hedge fund, sold his stake in Breitbart, and completely disassociated himself from Milo. And the purveyors of some of the most vile and bigoted content on the internet lost a major source of their funding.

The stakes are even higher in 2018.

Will Trump ever be held accountable? What happens next year will determine the answer.

SUPPORT THINKPROGRESS ⇨

We need your help to uncover critical information that could make all the difference in next year's key elections and policy debates. That's why we've started a membership program, with a goal of 2018 members by 2018.

We need just 368 more members by December 31 to reach our goal. Can you chip in $5 or $10 per month?

Facts can change the world and your donation can help us unearth those facts. Millions of people read stories on ThinkProgress every month. If life was fair, displaying a few advertisements would support our staff and allow us to continue doing our work.

But tech giants like Google and Facebook are gobbling up the lion's share of online revenue, leaving independent sites like ThinkProgress with few resources.

SUPPORT THINKPROGRESS ⇨

Covering the news now carries major fiscal consequesces for news outlets like ours, as many advertisers now view any coverage of white nationalism, racism and bigotry as a "brand risk" and are blocking ThinkProgress entirely.

We'll never change our unflinching approach to covering the news. But with your help we can change the world, one fact at a time.

Sincerely,
Judd Legum
